Glass Security Doors from Protective Structures

Glas security doors are one of specialties at Protective Structures. Many customers require maximum visibility and desire to have a "full light glass security door" which is a typically an aluminum or steel framed door with a full size window (light). Another commonly requested glass security door is the "all clear" glass security door. This is a completely frameless door that is constructed of a bullet and impact resistant transparency. Pictures coming soon!

Typical construction for both of these doors uses one of these bullet resistant transparencies is listed below. For more information on these transparencies, please click here to learn more about bullet resistant windows and transparencies:

  • Acrylic - The most economical transparency used in a glass security door. Acrylic is also the most "clear" or glass-like bullet resistant plastic.
  • Polycarbonate - The strongest and most effective transparency used in glass security doors. Polycarbonate is non-ricochet and non-spalling and captures the bullet entirely.
  • Glass Clad Polycarbonate - Offers the same characteristics as polycarbonate and higher levels of protection as well as a scratch resistant surface.

Glass, by itself, is not bullet resistant unless laminated into many layers. However, these many layers become quite heavy and typically do not make for a practical bullet resistant glass security door. Typical applications for glass security doors include:

  • banks
  • credit unions
  • shooting ranges
  • security check points
  • screening areas
