Testing FEMA Tornado Doors at Protective Structures
At Protective Structures, Ltd., we strive to bring you the finest doors available. We are constantly seeking higher performance and more cost efficient ways to deliver doors for our customers. The testing facility shown, allows us to test our doors and retest on a periodic basis. This ensures both you, the customer, and us that the door you are receiving will "stand up" to our highest standards.
The 2 x 4 Missile Launch Test is by far the most vigorous test performed on any portion of a storm shelter. A 15 pound 2" x 4" pine board is shot out of this canon (pictured to the left) in excess of 100 mph.
We have tested many doors to ensure the highest standards and unparalled quality. The FEMA 320/361 Specification calls for three shots to be fired on any door to pass specification. One shot is to the center of the door, a second shot to a corner near the hinge and the third shot is fired on the opposite corner to the door lock side. The 15 pound 2 x 4 missile is to travel at 100 mph.
As you can see from clicking on the link provided below, a non-FEMA rated door simply cannot withstand this vigorous testing. Do not settle for a non FEMA Rated tornado door under any circumstances.
