Bullet Resistant Enclosures - Engineered Protection from Threat Asessment through Installation

Bullet resistant enclosures are our specialty at Protective Structures. Every bullet resistant enclosure from Protective Structures uses UL Listed bullet resistant materials. These materials include bullet resistant fiberglass, acrylic, polycarbonate, glass, glass clad polycarbonate and sometimes steel. When properly engineered, these bullet resistant materials form a complete architectural bullet resistant enclosure that is not only bullet resistant but also beautiful and appealing to the eye.

Typically, implementing a bullet resistant enclosure involves three distinct phases which include a threat assessment where we determine what bullet resistant materials should be used, design and fabrication where we provide a complete set of drawings for your approval and finally installation if desired. We are also happy to sell "materials only" if you desire.

PHASE 1 - Threat Assessment and Materials

The first step in determining which bullet reistant materials need to be used in a bullet resistant enclosure is the threat assessment. We use the UL 752 Specification to determine which materials will serve you best, based in what type of weapons you are hoping to protect against.

In most cases, the threat comes from handguns and we generally recommend a UL Level 3. However, bullet resistant materials are often used as a "threat deterrent" and in this case, a UL Level 1 will suffice. We offer bullet resistant materials for any UL Levels 1 through 8. If you are unclear on what your threat level is, please give us a call.

Although there are many bullet resistant materials available, the most commonly used materials for any bullet resistant enclosure include the following:

SecureAll™ Bullet Resistant Fiberglass

SecureAll™ Bullet Resistant Fiberglass Panels are available in 4x8 or 3x8 foot sheets in UL 1 -8. SecureAll™ is a non-spalling and non-ricochet bullet resistant material that is UL Listed. UL Listed means our Fiberglass has undergone UL's stringent testing and is randomly tested throughout the year to meet UL Specifications. SecureAll™ is also one hour fire rated per ASTM 1198.

Bullet resistant fiberglass is commonly used in wall assemblies, countertops and is also used in our decorative bullet resistant doors. Click here for more information about SecureAll™ Bullet Resistant Fiberglass Panels.

Bullet Resistant Plastics

A variety of bullet resistant glazing materials and glass combinations are available through Protective Structures. Our most commonly used material is “Makrolon HyGard™” Laminated PolyCarbonate by Sheffield Plastics. PolyCarbonate is a non-spalling, non-ricochet material that can be used with minimal framing. PolyCarbonate has a slight tint which is often desireable for CCTV and surveillance purposes.

Acrylic is another bullet resistant plastic commonly used in window applications. Although economical, acrylic is a not a non spalling and non ricochet material like polycarbonate. Click here to learn more about bullet resistant windows.

PHASE 2 - Design and Fabrication

The Design and Fabrication Phase is one of the most critical elements of designing a bullet resistant enclosure. This phase sets Protective Structures apart from the competition in that Protective Structures will provide you with a complete set of detailed drawings. The entire bullet resistant enclosure will be designed on CAD and these drawings are used to present the scope of work, the bullet resistant materials being used and also serve as a final approval document. Once final approval has been received, fabrication of your bullet resistant enclosure will begin.

After receiving final approval on the design, the entire bullet resistant enclosure and all bullet resistant materials will be built and assembled at our factory prior to shipping. The entire kit is then dis-assembled, packed and shipped to location where a certified installation team will professionally install the bullet resistant enclosure.

Phase 3 - Installation

After assembly at the factory, your entire bullet resistant enclosure is shipped to location and a certified installation team will install the entire bullet resistant system. Crews are headed by a General Contractor and all crew members are professional tradesmen. Installation teams are able to work after-hours and on weekends. When finished, work areas are clean and ready to occupy.
