Bullet Resistant Protection Level Rating and UL 752 Specifications for Bullet Resistant Materials

When specifying bullet resistant systems, one must determine the bullet resistant protectin level rating. The UL 752 Standard for Bullet Resistant materials is the most common standard used for specifying bullet resistant materials.

Underwriters Laboratory (UL) is an independent testing facility that has developed more than 800 Standards for Safety. UL Standards for Safety are essential to helping ensure public safety and confidence, reduce costs, improve quality and market products and services. Millions of products and their components are tested to UL's rigorous safety standards with the result that consumers live in a safer environment than they would have otherwise.

It is for this reason that PSL uses the UL Standard for bullet resistant materials to specify bullet resistant protection level ratings. The following chart is provided as a quick reference to help you determine what bullet resistant protection level rating you desire. A fully detailed version of this chart is available in .PDF (Adobe Acrobat) by clicking here.

This specification is designed to provide standards for typical gun threats and by no means is meant to encompass every gun threat or variation in ammunition. Often, the term "bullet proof" is used as an industry catch phrase. By definition, the term "bullet proof" indicates bullet resistant per UL752 Specifications. A summary of the weapons definitions per UL is available by clicking here .
